Job Description

Vericast is seeking a highly motivated Staff Dev Ops Engineer to develop tools and solve technical challenges for our Engineering Teams. This crucial role encompasses both new development and operational problem resolution for a high volume, highly scalable system. The Staff DevOps Engineer will work with other talented engineers to leverage exciting new technologies in solving a variety of complex challenges.

We see DevOps as a process in which we work closely with the engineering teams to create, implement and support the various continuous delivery pipelines. We want you to use code to automate our environment, build resilient systems, and create repeatable processes. We also want you to provide leadership and mentorship to the the existing DevOps team members. You will help us grow and we will help expand your skill-set in a fast paced agile environment. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Code tools to automate deployment, monitoring, management, and incident response across our widely distributed production infrastructure
  • Develop, Enhance and Maintain our infrastructure codebase
  • Work closely with engineering to create, grow, and accelerate delivery of our solutions in a repeatable way
  • Drive automation of monitoring to gain more insight into applications and system health
  • Diagnose and support complex systems
  • Provide Linux systems administration support to the Engineering Team
  • Participate in on-call escalations to troubleshoot customer facing issues
  • Mentor and guide team members towards high quality solutions

Skills and Experience

  • Experience with DevOps concepts and techniques
  • Strong programming background with a good understanding of core software design principals
  • Very strong Linux experience in a highly-available production environment
  • Experience with writing and designing efficient and maintainable software (Algorithms, Data Structures, OOP design, Big O)
  • Experience with various programming languages (e.g. Java, C#, Python, Go, Bash, PowerShell)
  • Experience with infrastructure automation frameworks (Ansible, Puppet, Chef or Salt)
  • Knowledge of automating widely distributed systems
  • Experience with Docker and container management frameworks (Kubernetes, Mesos, Rancher)
  • Experience with various build automation tools (e.g. Jenkins, Gitlab)
  • Familiarity infrastructure monitoring software systems (Nagios, Zabbix, PagerDuty, VictorOps)
  • Familiarity with SQL and relational databases (Postgresql, MySQL)
  • Understanding of DNS and networking
  • Knowledge of best practices and IT operations in an always-up, always-available service.

Qualifications

 

  • BS in Computer Science (or other technical discipline with significant computer coursework) or equivalent experience
  • 3-5 years of experience in a DevOps Engineer or Software Engineer role
  • Developer level coding skills coupled with Linux SysAdmin level abilities
