Riverside University Health System (RUHS) - Medical Center, located in Moreno Valley, CA has Nocturnist (Assistant Medical Program Director I/II) opportunities available with the Internal Medicine Department.  The shift is 9:00 pm - 9:00 am.

Disneyland, Legoland, and Hollywood are all short drives away.   Moreno Valley is about 2 hours north of San Diego and about 1.5 hours southeast of Los Angeles.

What we are looking for in candidates:
  • MD/DO from an accredited medical school
  • Board Eligible/Board Certified in Internal Medicine
  • Active and unrestricted California medical license, or able to obtain a California medical license
  • Familiarity with hospitalist medicine practice, previous hospitalist or nocturnist experience a plus
  • Interest in teaching opportunities of medical student and residents
  • Bilingual in Spanish a plus

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES


• Function as the Lead Clinician in charge of all healthcare services provided to patients by the medical team or medical specialty area; plan, organize, supervise, and coordinate the primary or specialized medical services at the, medical center and outpatient clinics.

• Supervise physicians, mid-level practitioners, healthcare support staff, interns, and resident physicians; monitor and evaluate performance of clinicians and support staff; manage healthcare service operations and staff scheduling.

• Instruct physicians, mid-level practitioners, interns, resident physicians, and ancillary medical staff on all patient care services; provide professional guidance to healthcare staff engaged in performing patient care.

• Conduct and participate in in-service training for medical staff and ancillary medical staff; conduct or participate in department or primary care clinic rounds and instruct the medical staff on patient care services in relation to medical treatments and medications.

• Act as a medical consultant for primary, preventive care, health and wellness, and related community and public health programs; ensure medical staff and ancillary medical staff compliance to department policies, Joint Commission requirements, local, state, and federal regulations related to healthcare.

• Assist the Medical Program Director in managing department and provider performance improvement, and productivity processes and programs; confer with and advise the Medical Program Director on the department operations and make appropriate recommendations as necessary.

• Participate in planning and coordinating joint administrative and technical training programs and recommend methods and procedures for coordinating the applicable primary care or specialty services for patients; keep informed of current medical techniques, procedures, and equipment.

• Initiate, conduct, and coordinate special research projects; participate in conferences, present lectures, and prepare scientific papers.

• Maintain documentation of care to substantiate coding, in accordance with standards required by Joint Commission, state, and federal guidelines; maintain appropriate records and prepare reports related to the activities of the specialty area/department.

• Assist Medical Program Director in developing and implementing immediate and long-range goals and objectives of medical services programs; establish and revise program policies and procedures according to program guidelines/regulations; develop, implement, monitor, and evaluate program quality improvement (QI) activities.

• Assist the Medical Program Director in preparing the budget; represent the department in various committees, staff meetings, and professional meetings.

• Participate in the recruitment and selection of primary and mid-level practitioners.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Experience: AMPD I - no post residency experience required.  AMPD II - one year of post residency experience in a primary care or applicable medical specialty field, including some experience in a lead capacity.

License/Certificate: Possession of a current valid Physician's and Surgeon's Certificate issued by the State of California without restrictions.

Possession of a current valid Drug Enforcement Agency registration.

Eligible for certification/or Board certified in a specialty medical field by the applicable American Specialty Board.

Possession of a valid California Driver's License may be required. 

Knowledge of: The principles and practices of modern medicine; current techniques, procedures, and equipment applicable to primary care or the specialized medical field; principles of effective supervision.

Ability to:
Plan, organize, direct, and coordinate specialized medical services; perform specialized medical services; supervise and instruct professional and technical personnel; develop and present educational programs for interns, resident physicians, and ancillary medical staff; maintain records and prepare comprehensive reports; work effectively with staff, patients, and others.

MEDICAL/DENTAL INSURANCE: A Flexible Benefit Credit is provided on a monthly basis as governed by the Management Resolution or applicable bargaining unit. Vision coverage is provided through Vision Service Plan (VSP) at no cost to employee or eligible dependents.

MISCELLANEOUS RETIREMENT:  County of Riverside has three retirement Tiers through the California Public Employees' Retirement System (CalPERS).

  • Tier I (Classic Member – Formula 3% @ 60): Applicable to current and former County of Riverside local miscellaneous employees hired prior to 08/24/2012 and did not withdraw CalPERS contributions. The employee contribution is eight (8%) percent.
  • Tier II (Classic Member – Formula 2% @ 60): Applicable to local miscellaneous employees 1) hired after 08/23/2012 through 12/31/2012; 2) Previously employed with another CalPERS contracting public agency or a reciprocal retirement system, with a break in service of less than six months between the separation date with the previous employer and the appointment date with the County of Riverside. The employee contribution is seven (7%) percent.
  • Tier III (PEPRA New Member - Formula 2% @ 62): Applicable to CalPERS local miscellaneous new members hired on or after the implementation of the Public Employees' Pension Reform Act of 2013 (PEPRA) which took effect January 1, 2013. Effective July 1, 2023, the employee contributions are 7.25% and will increase to 7.75% effective July 1, 2024.

A new member is defined as any of the following:

  1. A new hire who enters CalPERS membership for the first time on or after January 1, 2013, and who has no prior membership in any California Public Retirement System.
  2. A new hire who enters CalPERS membership for the first time on or after January 1, 2013, and who was a member with another California Public Retirement System prior to that date, but who is not subject to reciprocity upon joining CalPERS.
  3. A member who first established CalPERS membership prior to January 1, 2013, and who is rehired by a different CalPERS agency after a break in service of greater than six (6) months.

CalPERS refers to all members that do not fit within the definition of a new member as "classic members".

Contribution rates are subject to change based on the County of Riverside annual actuarial valuation.

DEFERRED COMPENSATION: Voluntary employee contribution with a choice between two 457 deferred compensation plan options.

401(a) MONEY PURCHASE PLAN: County contribution of $50 per pay period towards choice between two 401(a) plan providers.

ANNUAL LEAVE (Bi-Weekly Accrual):

0 < 36 months = 8.92 Hours
36 to <108 months = 10.46 Hours
108 or more months = 12.00 Hours

Maximum Annual Leave accumulation is 1,800 hours. Employee may receive pay in lieu of up to 80 hours per calendar year. Agency/Department Head may approve an additional 80 hours.

-Annual Leave for Unrepresented Management Attorneys:
Maximum Annual Leave accumulation is 2,000 hours. Refer to Article 22 of the Management Resolution for a list of job classifications included.

HOLIDAYS: Normally 12 paid holidays per year.

BEREAVEMENT LEAVE: 5 days (3 days are County paid; 2 days can be taken through use of accrued leave balances).

BASIC LIFE INSURANCE: $50,000 of term life coverage. Premiums are paid by the County. Additional Supplemental Life plan is available for employee purchase.

LONG-TERM DISABILITY (LTD): Benefit pays 66.67% of earnings to a maximum of $10,000 per month; 30-day waiting period; pays to age 65. Benefit can be coordinated with other available leave balances to provide up to 100% of pay.

POST RETIREMENT MEDICAL CONTRIBUTION: A monthly contribution is made by the County towards retiree health insurance offered through the County as governed by the Management Resolution or applicable bargaining unit.
