Mechanical Engineer Intern
Tetra Tech is adding a Mechanical Engineer Intern to our Orlando and New York teams. As a Mechanical Intern, youโll be part of our dynamic team, contributing to mechanical systems design for industrial, commercial, wastewater, and water facilities. Your work will span system expansions, total replacements, and new facility construction.

Your Role:
- Assist in the development of mechanical system design from concept phase through construction under the direction of a Professional Engineer including the development of construction documents.
- Support HVAC load calculations, energy models, life cycle cost analysis, and ventilation calculations in compliance with applicable codes and energy efficiency standards.
- Help size equipment and develop layouts for HVAC (airside and hydronic) and plumbing systems.
- Support designing plumbing systems such as domestic water, sanitary/vent, and fire protection systems
- Performing plumbing calculations and supporting detailed plumbing system designs.
- Use software tools like AutoCAD and Revit to produce technical drawings and schematics.
- Review and edit construction specifications using MasterSpec for each applicable project.
- Participate in construction administration. Responsibilities include responding to contractor RFIs, reviewing shop drawings, and handling construction submittals. Conduct construction site field observations and prepare punch lists during various stages of construction.
- Work with a multi-discipline team to produce constructible drawing packages.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Currently pursuing a bachelorโs degree in mechanical engineering or a related field.
- Eagerness to learn about the AEC industry and apply academic knowledge to real-world engineering applications
- Relevant coursework or experience in mechanical engineering is preferred.
- Completion of, or progress towards, the Fundamentals of Engineering Exam certification or Engineer in Training (EIT) registration is preferred.
- Bluebeam, REVIT/BIM or AutoCAD experience is preferred but not required.
- Possess effective communication skills, including verbal, written, and non-verbal.
- Have a cooperative attitude and collaborative approach.
- Be open to feedback and able to respond to directions and change requests.
- Demonstrate critical thinking and reasoning skills.
- Be proficient in Microsoft 365, and Office Suite.
- This position could require periodic travel, approximately 5% or more
