ORGANIZATIONAL SUMMARY:
USF’s Office of Youth Experiences provides engaging, creative, and inclusive opportunities for young people to explore new and innovative career paths. We offer an expanding variety of camps and other enriching experiences for elementary, middle, and high school students. The Office of Youth Experiences strives to promote the academic work of USF colleges and programs, assist with recruitment efforts, and collaborate with community stakeholders to provide better opportunities for underserved
populations. These camps focus on connecting children and families with the University of South Florida by providing experiences that are engaging and unique.
POSTION SUMMARY (Lead Counselor):
This position will serve as a counselor lead for various Office of Youth Experience summer camps which include elementary, middle, and high school virtual summer camp offerings. Current camps include, but are not limited to, the Tampa Theatre Film Camp, CAGE Elementary Cyber Camp, Everyone Can Code, AFA CyberPatriot Middle
School Cyber Camp, High School Cyber Camp, Creative Writing, The Art of Filmmaking, and the JGHC Summer Institute: Mock Trial Intensive. Under the direction of the Assistant Director for Youth Experiences, this position will be responsible for course creation and delivery, supervision/oversight of camp counselors and volunteers, camp
evaluations and reports. This position will also support various programs within the Center, utilizing curriculum design and multimedia technology. This role is also responsible for assisting with whole group instruction, working with a small group, and helping students resolve technical issues.
JOB DUTIES (Lead Counselor):
- Work directly with campers between 3rd - 12th grade in whole group and small group environments.
- Develop, supplement, and make adjustments to summer camp curriculum.
- Navigate virtual environments (i.e. Teams, Zoom, Canvas).
- Facilitate small group discussions and discussion boards.
- Facilitate counselor meetings prior to and after camp each day.
- Provide counselors expectations of job duties and ensure an understanding of curriculum.
- Assist counselors and campers throughout the week as needed.
- Help facilitate the culminating activity of camp.
- Provide communication to parents and volunteers before, during, and after camp.
- Collaborates with internal staff and other counselors to design and develop interactive and media-rich online courses and digital content.
- Under the guidance from the Assistant Director, produces digital assets and multimedia solutions while adhering to quality standards, student learning outcomes, and production timeliness.
- Performs through content analysis to ensure grammar, organization, and purpose are clear for intended audience.
- Assesses learner needs to determine appropriate and creative delivery methods.
- Works with Information Technology department staff on technical issues and requirements.
- Conduct research to remain fluent and knowledgeable in best practices strategies tools and current topics in camp.
- Evaluates virtual camps and makes recommendations for improvements based on the Florida Quality Review process.
- Perform other duties as required in support of the department or program.
Minimum Qualifictions:
This position requires a Bachelor's degree in Communication, Education, Adult Education, or equivalent field with one year of experience in a professional training position; or a Master's degree in the same field. Degree Equivalency Clause: Four years of direct experience for a bachelor’s degree;
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working or volunteering in a camp, school, or program with K-12 students. Experience and understanding of lesson planning or curriculum design. Experience using various technologies with K-12 students. Experience with course delivery/teaching. Experience in a professional training position. Proficient experience using Canvas and Teams. Experience in the one or more of the following fields: Cybersecurity, Filmmaking, Coding

This role is responsible for assisting with whole group instruction, working with a small group, managing student behaviors, and camp logistics.

- Work directly with 3rd - 12th grade campers in whole group and small group environments.
- Deliver lesson plans and curriculum based on summer camp topics and goals.
- Navigate virtual environments (i.e., Teams, Zoom, Canvas).
- Facilitate small group discussions and discussion boards.
- Participate in counselor meetings prior to and after camp each day.
- Facilitate camper communication throughout the week.
- Assist campers in technical activities.
- Help facilitate the culminating activity on the last day of camp.
Minimum Qualifications:
This appointment requires completion of the 9th grade and related experience.
FLSB1310 Equivalency: 4 years of directly relevant experience may be substituted for bachelor's degree. 6 years of directly relevant experience may be substituted for master's degree.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Education. Experience working or volunteering in a camp, school, or program with K-12 students. Experience and understanding of necessary technology used in at least one camp. (i.e. iMovie, GarageBand, Swift Coding, Slack, etc.)
