POSITION PURPOSE

The Designer Engineer will participate in the Global Engineering Group and deliver complex design mainly for new products. These designs should meet functional and manufacturability requirements while maintaining accuracy and adherence to the BAC’s Global Design Standards and compliance with applicable regulatory requirements. 

 

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Responsible for the design and development of the product concept for the assigned NPI program.
  • Designs complex sub-assemblies and product modules with general direction of design intent per BAC’s and industry’s standards
  • Explore the impact that proposed designs will have on all applicable subsystems, parts and assemblies. Develops scope of work, quantifies efforts involved, technical feasibility & cost impact vs the product requirements.
  • Owns the DFMEA – driving the process and resolutions to each item
  • Responsible for product testing and validation of the concepts, prototypes and support initial production unit performance verification as applicable
  • Owns execution & timely implementation of the issue resolutions 
    • Identify root cause, address and resolve issues and implement corrective actions
  • Utilize agile/scrum project management methodologies to organize and manage iterative development of the new products
  • Lead collaborative discussions with cross-functional teams to share, develop proposals and resolve product design & performance issues
  • Provide regular presentations to stakeholders and leadership regarding project progress  
  • Supports product improvement and cost-out opportunities including manufacturing/field and warranty issues as applicable.
  • Travel periodically to BAC manufacturing facilities to assist with prototype or pilot fabrication and assembly  

 

NATURE & SCOPE

The Design Engineer reports directly to the Global Engineering Manager – NPI.  The individual will work directly with the Team leads, Engineers, Designers, Cross-functional members and/or project manager of any projects in which he or she participates. 

 

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent with 3-5 years of experience
  • Working knowledge of Root Cause Analysis and product development process (Agile/scrum/ stage-gate / NPI)
  • Proficiency in 3D modeling software (Autodesk Inventor or equivalent) and Excel
  • Proficiency in reading understanding and generating electrical schematic dwgs.
  • Sheet metal design experience
  • Project management Experience - desired
  • DFMA design (design for manufacturing & assembly)
  • Hands-on prototype building and testing experience
  • Highly Variable and modular product design
  • Autodesk Vault or equivalent system knowledge
  • HVAC / Refrigeration system working knowledge

 

Required Experience/Certification:

  • BS in Engineering or equivalent
  • CAD certificate preferred or min 3 Years (3000 hrs) of hands-on CAD experience

BAC Hiring Compensation Range $59,500 – $102,000.
