We are currently expanding our successful team in our Denver, Colorado market. There is an immediate need for a Principal Water Resources Engineer to work in conjunction with our engineers and professionals on multi-discipline teams to develop and support project activities through the application of engineering and geologic principles and techniques. This position will provide engineering and construction related planning, design, analysis, oversight, and studies for dams and water resource projects. Critical thinking skills are required to solve technical issues and develop project-specific solutions. This position will serve as a technical specialist supporting both project and pursuit teams. The position will require travel to project sites; work flexibility (hours and location) is possible.
Key requirements of the position include a keen understanding of civil engineering principles of earthen embankment and dam designs, levees, tailings storage facilities and water retaining structures.
Your Role:
- Plan, conduct and supervise geotechnical engineering design and analysis related to civil engineering projects for water supply, dams, and reservoir projects. Responsibilities may include managing and preparing geotechnical and geologic field investigations, reviewing field investigation boring logs and data and assigning project specific laboratory testing, conducting engineering analyses and design, foundation design, fill placement/ground modification design, seepage evaluation, slope stability and seismic analyses, and preparing, editing, and reviewing geotechnical engineering reports and documents for a variety of applications;
- Conduct dam safety investigations; facilitate and/or participate in FERC Part 12, PFMA, dam risk analysis, assessment and management activities;
- Provide geotechnical solutions for dams, embankments, levees, foundations, underground construction, and earth structures;
- Develop and/or review quality control/assurance specifications and documentation during engineering design projects and during field construction activities;
- Conduct field observations, site visits, and exploration programs. Verify that work performed complies with contract requirements;
- Analysis and design of corrective measures for major geotechnical problems such as landslides, seepage, foundations, canal failures or land subsidence;
- Provide cost-effective, functional, and sound designs that meet dam safety requirements and that ensure public safety;
- Prepare preliminary and detailed design drawings and specifications for engineering projects;
- Participate in marketing and business development efforts, personally contributing to developing new projects and clients. Provide pursuit planning and proposal preparation;
- Participate in the development of a growth strategy for expanding dam and geotechnical services
Qualifications:
- BS in Civil Engineering or Geological Engineering with an emphasis in geotechnical applications; MS in Geotechnical Engineering preferred, plus equivalent experience;
- Registration as PE in Colorado is required, or ability to become registered within 6 months;
- Twenty or more years of relevant experience;
- Construction experience and ability to trouble shoot issues in the field; Working knowledge of AutoCAD, computer modelling skills are a plus;
- Proficiency or solid working knowledge of computer modelling software such as GeoStudio, LPile, gINT, FLAC;
- Must be able to occasionally travel to project sites, both local and remote, work in the field during all seasons and weather conditions, and be able to lift heavy loads (up to 25 pounds). Experience logging boreholes using both auger and coring methods is preferred;
Salary range: $150,000 - $190,000, depending on education, experience, skills and location.
