Job Description

Vericast is looking for a Director of Manufacturing who will oversee all aspects of the print manufacturing processes and ancillary departments for a Valassis print division/location. The Director will work collaboratively with the print manufacturing leadership team to develop strategies that drive optimal performance, associate development and satisfaction while providing a safe work environment. An important aspect of this role will be creating an environment of continuous learning where process improvement opportunities are identified and acted on in areas such as safety, quality, output, uptime, and waste reduction while supporting efforts to secure, retain, service and grow the Valassis print portfolio.

On any given day, your responsibilities will include:

  • Establishing short and long term strategic initiatives in support of the manufacturing vision; developing and managing financial budgets that meet or exceed established targets, providing CAPEX recommendations, and plant layout changes to drive efficiencies; challenging department leadership to establish safety, production, and quality KPI’s (Key Performance Indicators) to monitor progress and achieve financial targets; developing reporting tools to effectively communicate performance to associates, local and senior leadership.
  • Providing guidance and professional development to all manufacturing leaders; effectively communicating how the plant strategic plan aligns with meeting financial targets and company direction; ensuring leaders are effectively communicating performance expectations with their teams and implementing the Performance Management Process consistently with a focus on associate development.
  • Developing and implementing operating methods and procedures designed to eliminate operating waste and improve product quality; establishing goals, monitoring performance, and providing ongoing feedback to direct reports; reviewing and analyzing production, quality control, maintenance, and operational reports to identify lean process opportunities to drive continuous improvement and KPI performance.
  • Driving innovation and efficiencies across the company supply chain by partnering with peers, product development and planning; identify/evaluate new product and press requirements while considering Shared Mail efficiency requirements; partner with engineering and strategic sourcing to ensure alignment exists with the overall manufacturing strategic vision.
  • Creating an environment where associates identify and communicate potential process improvements and best practices, safety concerns, potential unsafe work practices and/or conditions.
  • Ensure all federal, state, and local environmental & safety regulations are met by working with the manufacturing leadership team and engineering; provide required training to associates. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

EDUCATION

  • High School Diploma or GED (Required)
  • Bachelor's Degree (Preferred)
  • Master's Degree (Preferred)

EXPERIENCE

  • 8 - 10 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. (Required)
  • 8 - 10 years Strong financial background with knowledge of various business segments. (Preferred)
  • 8 - 10 years Strong understanding of print manufacturing processes and equipment requirements. (Preferred)

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES

  • Experience leading a large multi-shift operation in a fast paced, deadline driven manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to develop, own and champion the execution of projects/initiatives that typically have a significant impact on financial performance
  • Proficient in writing reports, business correspondence, and procedures; ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from
  • groups of Sr. leaders, peers, associates and clients.
  • Experience in solving unique and complex problems that have a broad impact within or outside functional area.
  • Able to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective, trusted relationships with internal/external clients, including managing difficult or emotional situations.
  • Lean manufacturing experience and/or certification preferred.
  • The ability to work extra hours, beyond regular schedule, to complete work assignments as required.
  • Occasional travel may be required to acquire new skill enhancements or to visit other manufacturing facilities.

EQUIPMENT/SOFTWARE UTILIZED

  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook.
  • Utilization of database, data analytics, and asset management software.

COMMUNICATION AND CONTACTS

  • Effective written, verbal communication and interpersonal skills; proficient communicating at all levels of the organization.

DECISION MAKING

  • Strategic and financial planning for a single location.
  • Legal and ethical implementation of company guidelines and policies.
  • Capital expenditure, budget and invoice approval.
  • Strategic staffing and development. Associate development and advancement utilizing the Performance Management Process, Talent Review and Succession
  • Planning and the approved Step Progression Program (SPP).
  • Operational and procedural corrections or changes for the business unit.
  • Leadership and cross-functional support of strategic corporate initiatives.

OTHER

  • Coordinate shifting business requirements to meet client’s need.
  • Collaborate with Sales in the resolution of client relation's issues.
  • Alignment of workforce structure with technological advances and/or key process changes.

Additional Information

Salary: $113,500 - $135,000

Position is eligible for an annual bonus incentive program

The ultimate compensation offered for the position will depend upon several factors such as skill level, cost of living, experience, and responsibilities.
