
Head of Alternatives Product Control, Managing Director
State Street is making a multi-year strategic investment in Private Markets. The Alternatives Product organization is recruiting for a Head of Product Control to support the Global Head of Alternatives Executive. The Head of Alternatives Product Control acts as the central point of contact for business management across the Alternative Product organization globally, providing management support, and is responsible for engaging all business management functions for daily execution and delivery. The Head of Alternatives Product Control ensures strategic alignment and consistency of messaging within their unit. This role will function as the conduit of information flow to other functions across the bank and coordinates with the Product Office CAO teams.
As Head of Alternatives Product Control, you will establish a product management platform that enables effective P&L ownership and risk management by the Product Managers. You will partner with CAO and Finance teams globally to address business questions derived from managing the P&L. You will support Product Managers and the Global Head of Alternatives Executive in collation of data supporting annual investment spend and budgeting. You will lead a team of analysts to enable delivery. The role reports to the Global Head of Alternatives.
Responsibilities
The Head of Alternatives Product Control will have responsibility for the following:
- Strategy analysis for the business
- P&L analysis
- Development of the Product Platform to build P&L tools covering price, risk, cost to serve and key metrics
- Administration of annual investment spend, budget, governance submissions
- Manage headcount forecast and annual planning processes
- Maintain the risk catalogue for the business, tracking audit, compliance, and risk actions
- Conduct and co-ordinate deep dives on strategy or risk topics across the business
- Work across functions and finance teams to understand business impacts of expense allocations
Skills
- Finance or Product P&L management background
- Data management/ data visualization techniques (Tableau, Alteryx, Python)
- Subject matter knowledge across Asset Servicing Products (Custody, Fund Services)
- Strong spreadsheet skills
- Proven expertise in strategy documentation
- Understanding of product control frameworks and governance requirements
- Deep understanding of the Alternatives business, including our private markets business which includes our private equity, private credit, real assets, and fund of funds segments
- Prior experience of successfully delivering change in a complex environment whilst managing competing environments
- Proven change agents with track record of delivery
- Data expert with experience in modern data management techniques
- Budget and finance skills
- Proven record of delivering projects using Agile and Waterfall techniques
- Track record of engagement with complex clients, solutioning operating models and translating requirements into feature function capability for State Street platforms
- Familiarity with industry integration tools and their applicability in shortening the chain of custody across the investment lifecycle
- Strong stakeholder management skills with an ability to navigate organization through the solution delivery cycle
- Track record of solving data integration challenges across complex and at scale product sets
Education & Preferred Qualifications
- Significant Alternatives experience
- Significant relevant business experience; BU experience with similar CAO function or strategy function
- Master’s and/or Bachelor’s degree in business administration or similar field
- Experience managing teams
- Results-focused individual with the persistence and patience necessary to work effectively with a variety of internal and external constituents and drive results.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively partner with senior level staff, middle management and support divisions as required to execute strategic objectives.
- Possess the ability to create executive and board level material. Requires synthesizing and summarizing of complicated content.
- Experienced project manager with the ability to manage multiple priorities and lead team efforts, as necessary.
- Proven leader with effective analytical, interpersonal, written, and oral presentations skills
- Effective at flexing and pivoting – be comfortable dealing with various changes and adapting to them.
- Networking – ability to find data, insights, and proof points very quickly across the organization with very little direction and synthesize.
- Influence – be comfortable working with and influencing senior leaders and executives.
- Multi-task – ability to effectively manage multiple priorities, but also be able to focus on the most important deliverables of the moment through proper prioritization.
- Business acumen – ability to pre-empt questions and sense-check the facts and be able to display a general business knowledge across all business lines.
- Significant experience in Excel and PowerPoint

Salary Range:
$170,000 - $267,500 AnnualThe range quoted above applies to the role in the primary location specified. If the candidate would ultimately work outside of the primary location above, the applicable range could differ.
