Description & Requirements

We are looking for a systems engineer intern to support designing and developing solutions for complex applications problems. In addition, we are looking for a motivated engineer experience or knowledge of software systems and systems engineering processes. Management and cloud based-technical understanding is a bonus.

The position will support Solution Architects who play a critical role in defining and implementing technology solutions that align with our business objectives. The intern will also support the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC), Product Development Lifecycle (PDLC), and Agile Development methodologies that are developed by the Chief Technology Office. The ideal candidate will be interested in learning software systems, product lifecycle, and systems engineering with a focus on software development. Candidates will also have a desire to collaborate and grow communications skills.

Additionally, the selected intern will gain knowledge of general business principles, corporate organizational structure and government process improvement. Throughout the summer, you will have the opportunity to meet, interact, and collaborate among various project teams, consultants, senior management, executives and peers. Guidance and training on operations standards and protocols will be provided by the Manager. 

BENEFITS / COMPENSATION:
Hourly pay range is competitive and commensurate with education and experience. Interns are eligible for benefits. All computer equipment and access to digital systems will be provided to the hired candidate. Students may also complete the internship for academic credit, subject to the qualifications of their academic program. 

PROGRAM DETAILS:
This position requires a commitment of 40 full-time hours per week, with availability during usual business hours (8AM-6PM ET), for the duration of a 10-week summer program: starting Tuesday, May 27th and ending Friday, August 8th, 2025. This opportunity is remote within the United States only and from any time zone.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Work on IT assignments of moderate difficulty, under the direction of a more senior mentor, to build a well-rounded skillset
- Escalate issues and questions to management as necessary
- Participate in group discussions with peers or external groups to solution problems of moderate scope
- Participate in meetings to gain process knowledge and guidance on assigned projects
- Read, understand and perform assignments within prescribed guidelines
- Approach challenges and create solutions with a critical thinking and customer service mindset
- Prepare standard reports and presentation materials.

Architectural Design: Support in the development and maintenance of architecture that guide the development and integration of solutions.
Technical Leadership: Support technical leadership in development of guidance to development teams throughout the SDLC, ensuring best practices and standards are followed to meet business needs.
Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with product managers, business analysts, business development and other stakeholders to understand requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
Solution Evaluation: Support the evaluation and recommendation of tools, technologies, and processes to ensure the highest quality and performance of software solutions.
Documentation: Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for architectural designs, technical specifications, and project plans.
Minimum Requirements

- Currently enrolled in an accredited college or university and pursuing a college degree in a related major including systems, technical, engineering, analytics, or similar field.
- Must have completed 2 years of coursework.
- Good organizational, planning, and time management abilities.
- Strong interpersonal communication, teamwork, and customer service skills.
- Limited use and/or application of basic principles, theories, and concepts.
Systems Engineer or Software Engineer learning to grow their skills and ability to apply what they have learned in university.  Willing to consider all levels of education, however US Citizenship is required for this role.

Pay Transparency
Maximus compensation is based on various factors including but not limited to job location, a candidate's education, training, experience, expected quality and quantity of work, required travel (if any), external market and internal value analysis including seniority and merit systems, as well as internal pay alignment. Annual salary is just one component of Maximus's total compensation package. Other rewards may include short- and long-term incentives as well as program-specific awards. Additionally, Maximus provides a variety of benefits to employees, including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, a retirement savings plan, paid holidays and paid time off. Compensation ranges may differ based on contract value but will be commensurate with job duties and relevant work experience.
