Fabulous summer opportunity for City of Boston young adults ages 19-24! Join a first-of-its-kind initiative at the Boston Architectural College exploring urban design, planning, and development.

 

About the BAC Urban Design and Planning + Summer Academy Program:

This pre-college program introduces students to urban planning and design with leading professionals and peers in the Boston area and beyond. This program is located in-person on the Boston Architectural College campus in Back Bay, Boston.

As fellows, high school-aged students are jointly enrolled in two programs that together are designed to support and enhance student learning— the Summer Academy Design Program plus the Urban Design and Planning Program:

  • Urban Design and Planning Program: This pre-professional training program prepares students for urban planning and urban design professional practice.
  • Summer Academy Design Program: This hands-on program is designed for high school students who are curious about starting a career in architecture, interior design and landscape design.

About the Program Assistant job position:
Through the City of Boston’s SuccessLink Leader initiative, the Boston Architectural College is currently hiring City of Boston residents who are emerging young leaders aged (19-24).  This paid summer position is designed for City of Boston residents who are considering pursuing education and/or careers in design and/or urban city studies. Program Assistants assist with the program logistics while also learning about urban design, planning, development with leading professionals and peers in the Boston area and beyond. No experience is required, just a desire to learn and explore these topics, as well as develop their skills as a program assistant.

 

This is a great opportunity for young adults who are interested in design and STEM/STEAM careers; exploring the planning and design professions (and related topics of policy, environment, climate); and gaining knowledge about educational and career paths in design, planning and STEM. 

 

Location: Boston Architectural College, 320 Newbury Street, Boston MA (in-person)

Program dates: June 23-Aug 8, 2024 (except July 4th)

Program times: 10:00am-4:30pm Mon-Fri (with a 30 minute lunch break)

Hourly rate: $20.00 (before taxes)

 

PRIMARY ESSENTIAL Functions of the Program Assistant:

  • Working with the Program Director-Manager team, Instructors, Teaching Assistants (TAs), and high school fellows to complete daily activities in design, planning, and professional/career exploration;
    • Assist in coordinating lectures and interviews with community and professional partners
    • Assist in discussion sessions and tutorials
    • Lead a team of 10-14 high-school students in daily learning activities including creating and building hands-on projects
  • Conducting oneself in a respectful and appropriate manner and adhering to Boston Architectural College employment code of conduct at all times;
  • Contributing to a positive learning and team culture
    • Assisting with program logistics and set up including
      • Program materials and equipment 
      • Lunch

COMPENSATION:

  • Hourly pay of $20.00 (before taxes etc.) for up to 30 hours/week for 7 weeks (except July 4th)

Qualifications

REQUIREMENTS: 

To qualify for the position:

  • Live in the City of Boston. 
  • Be 19-24 years old.
  • Complete the required applications and paperwork
  • Employment for the program is 7 weeks, 30-hours each week (24 hours July 4th week)
  • Successfully complete CORI check
  • Follow the BAC's COVID policies
