At a Glance

Legrand has an exciting opportunity for a Electrical Engineer to join the Wiremold Team in West Hartford, CT. The successful candidate will be responsible for the design of new electrical products from concept to production and for technical support of some mature products. Working individually or as part of a design team, develops, evaluates and validates product design, specification and design reviews, documentation packages, preproduction builds and transfers to production. Provides guidance and support to engineering team members within discipline and across disciplines.

What Will You Do?

MAIN JOB DUTIES:
  • Design, build, analyze, and troubleshoot electrical components, sub-assemblies and products, using schematic capture and PCB layout programs, various digital and analog test equipment, ensuring that the design specifications are met or updated, as necessary, to reflect changing requirements and/or design realities
  • Coordinate new designs and design changes with engineering, CAD, technical writing, test engineering, and production ensuring that both product and customer documentation is correct and up-to-date.
  • Research, review, evaluate, document, and implement product improvement concepts and design enhancements to increase productivity and reduce cost. Actively participate in developing and refining product development processes and procedures. Formally recommend process improvements.
  • Build, test, and validate manufacturing test fixtures. Prepare and support reliability/ validation testing. Support manufacturing by resolving problems as they develop. Assist quality Control with questions concerning the acceptability of material. Train and supervise the work of Technicians and Interns, assuming responsibility for their work and ensuring accurate and timely completion of tasks.

  • Qualifications


    Required Skills

    • BS Electrical Engineering.
    • Minimum of 5 years experience in electrical design, building, analyzing, and troubleshooting electronic products.

    Preferred Skills:

    • Masters preferred
    • Design and develop hardware architectures and embedded systems for IoT an Wireless Network devices.
    • Experience in designing and implementing low-power & battery operated boards
      • Experience in developing digital and analog mixed circuits for sensors, measurement, communications, power managementDesign digital, microprocessor based circuits
      • Design AC / DC power conversion circuits, relay switching, and power monitor circuits
      • Understanding and application of WiFi hardware and design
      • Understanding of Cloud based application
      • Firmware development helpful
    • Understanding of USB & USB-C Power Delivery for charging devices
      • Direct the discussions of power supply design
      • Recommend and define the differences on IC chips options
    • Understanding of Power over Ethernet or other Digital Energy transfer methods
      • Define options and functionality to team
    • Develop and perform validation testing to ensure hardware system designs meet technical requirements as needed
      • Evaluation including preparing for agency testing (FCC, UL, CE, etc.)
      • Develop specifications and equipment needs for production systems
    • Develop project plans, identify key milestones, risks, and develop time estimates for each milestone to complete the project
      • Use Smartsheets to track projects
      • Provide input to team for project development phases pertaining to electronic items
    • Convey circuit design and intend to off-shore team
      • Circuit or schematic design required
      • Experience in Altium preferred, or one of the major PCB design CAD tools
    • Assist documenting and writing product technical detailed specifications
      • Use of Solid Works helpful
    • Work with vendors for electronics manufacturing of devices
      • Interface with other Legrand teams to recommend best fit
    • Have sound technical knowledge and design skills.
    • Able to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems.
    • Strong organizational and time management skills, close attention to detail and be able to effectively handle multiple priorities.
    • Have strong analytical skills and proven ability to efficiently research and summarize information in an effective manner and make recommendations based upon analysis.
    • Able to work independently as well as within a variety of teams.
    • Highly collaborative to ensure timely completion of projects.
    • Strong computer skills, proficient with word processing, spreadsheet, presentation and data base software, e-mail and meeting management software.
    • Ability to use Internet and web based resources efficiently and effectively.
    • Proficient with engineering design software such as CAD or ProE.
    • Possess excellent project management skills, including demonstrated ability to develop and manage to a project plan, establish priorities, work to deadlines and control a number of projects at various stages of work.
    • Understand the implications of product costing to ensure business goals are met.
