Janitor
Schedule: Monday-Friday 10:00am-6:30pm
Summary: Keep buildings in clean and orderly condition. Perform heavy cleaning duties, such as mopping and waxing floors, dusting, deep cleaning of all bathrooms, and removing trash. Follows all operating procedures, safety regulations, and sanitation practices involving bio-clean up, and company policy and procedures.
General Responsibilities:
- Clean building floors by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, buffing, and vacuuming
- this includes the use and care of floor cleaning machines and buffers.
- Gather, empty, and discard trash.
- Gather outside trash and discard of it.
- Clean outside smoking trash area.
- Clean and sweep outside entry way / walkway.
- Service, clean, and supply restrooms.
- Clean and polish furniture and fixtures.
- Clean windows, glass partitions, and mirrors, using soapy water or other cleaners, sponges, and squeegees.
- Dust furniture, walls, machines, and equipment.
- Outside sweeping of entry way/walkway
- Mix water and detergents or acids in containers to prepare cleaning solutions, according to specifications.
- Steam-clean or shampoo carpets.
- Strip, seal, finish, and polish floors.
- Clean laboratory equipment, such as glassware and metal instruments, using solvents, brushes, rags, and power cleaning equipment.
- Follow procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power equipment, in order to prevent damage to floors and fixtures.
- Move furniture, equipment, and supplies.
- Notify managers concerning the need for major repairs or additions to building operating systems.
- Spray insecticides and fumigants to prevent insect and rodent infestation.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Ability to be a self-starter with little or no supervision.
- Ability to push/pull wagons, carts, buggies, dollies loaded with cargo.
- Unrestricted ability to repetitiously bend, stoop squat, stand, walk, climb, twist, turn and reach out.
- Ability to repetitiously bend (stoop and/or squat) to lift items weighing an average of 50 lbs. each to load/unload wagons, carts, buggies or dollies.
- Ability to stand on concrete floor approximately 80 percent of shift.
- Ability to read and speak the English language sufficiently to converse with co-workers and employees, and to read receipts and reports.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work with cleaning products, chemicals and solvents using safety equipment provided by the company.
- Frequently lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects weighing up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to use tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity.
- Walking, bending, and crouching (more than 75% of the time).
- Ability to work for sustained periods of time maintaining concentrated attention to detail.
- Noise level in the environment is usually moderate.
- Occasionally lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects weighing up to 65 pounds.
- Ascend or descend ladders, scaffolding, ramps, poles, and the like.
- Use tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity.
- Walk, stand, and/or crouch on narrow, slippery, or moving surfaces.
Qualifications / Requirements:
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Three to six months minimum related experience and / or training in public area cleaning.
- or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Knowledge of carpet cleaning equipment, high speed buffers, power wash equipment and marble polishing preferred
- Ability to effectively communicate in English both written and verbal.
- Ability to read, write, comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos.
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Ability to perform light electrical, plumbing, and carpentry a plus.
- Available: Monday - Friday 10am - 630pm
