Description

Better Community Living is seeking part-time, evening-based, ASD Life Coaches to work as change agents aiding neurodiverse individuals reach their personal goals! This career opportunity will take place in the community as well as Better Community Living's locations in Fairhaven and New Bedford, Massachusetts. 15 hours per week - Monday 3:00PM to 7:30PM, Tuesday 3:00PM to 7:30PM, Thursday 3:00PM to 9:00PM (some flexibility may be available)

 

Responsibilities include assisting individuals achieve success in one or more of the following goal areas:

  • Health and wellness
  • Community engagement and social skill awareness
  • Learning about autistic culture and support
  • Advocacy and Social Justice
  • Developing leadership potential
  • Employment and volunteerism
  • Finding self-identified purpose 

 


Working Conditions:

  • Physical activities include but not limited to climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, pulling, etc.
  • Exerting in excess of 100 lbs. of force occasionally.
  • Subject to both indoor and outdoor environmental conditions.
  • The worker is subject to hazards such as moving parts, moving vehicles, etc.

Qualifications

Experience:

Experience or exposure to individuals with Autistic traits preferred, as well as candidates who understand the current paradigm shifts in Autism research and understanding. However, extensive experience serving the Autistic population is not required. In fact, we are seeking candidates who are committed to developing their own strength-based approach to helping individuals with autistic traits feel greater self-satisfaction.

 

Training:

Preference given to candidates who will actively engage in and enjoy an environment of continuous on-the-job training. Position requires completion of an initial paid training program. Ongoing training will be required (and paid), as we are looking for people who want to grow in the field! Better Community Living also offers tuition reimbursement for those who qualify.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • High School/GED
  • All applicants must be at least 18 years of age and have had a current US drivers license for 3 years and use of personal vehicle.
  • Time management and writing skills
  • Successful applicants must be able to successfully pass a CORI check, Drug Test, and a Driving Record Check.
  • All applicants must be able to become First Aid, CPR, Human Rights, Safety Care, and MAP certified within 30 days of employment.
  • College courses related to or experience living with, working with, or knowing neurodivergent individuals

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 6 months experience in human services

Salary: $19.16 per hour or as outlined in Collective Bargaining Agreement.
