Senior Data Analyst
Position Summary:
The Senior Data Analyst is responsible for overseeing the Institute's data sources and systems, and for creating, documenting, maintaining, and updating the Institute's databases. This position will be responsible for data security, maintaining data integrity, maintaining availability for users, and preventing unauthorized access. They will manage the overall database environment, develop data governance, upgrade and test modifications to databases. They will also supervise Data Analysts or Data Specialists and work closely with university IT staff.
Essential Duties include but are not limited to:
Data Leadership
- Lead creation and management of multiple large datasets, developing reports, and troubleshooting data issues.
Database Development and Management
- Develop system storage structures needed for reporting solutions and ensure that storage, archiving, backup, and recovery procedures are functioning correctly and meet all security protocols.
Monitoring and Security
- Work with University IT staff to develop protocols for application, security plans, and use of national and international datasets used by department staff and faculty.
Data Sharing
- Collaborate with the department to provide access to selected data content and link external data sources.
Data Utilization and Visualization
- Collaborate with colleagues in the Institute to support timely and accurate preparation, compilation, and submission of reports, surveys, and files to internal and external stakeholders.
--- Required Education: Bachelor's Degree, AND:
- 48 months experience as a Data Analyst or in related field is required.
Equivalency/Substitution: Will accept 48 months data analysis, business analysis experience in lieu of the Bachelor¿s Degree for a total of 96 months experience.
Preferred Experience:
- Five to eight years of experience with database management including but not limited to security set-up and maintenance, interface customization, module design, and queries.
- Demonstrated experience managing large data sets and relational databases.
- Experience with basic statistical software (SPSS, R) and data visualization tools (Tableau, PowerBI).
- Experience cleaning, modeling, linking, and integrating analyzable data exports.
- Experience with MySQL and Microsoft SQL server.
- Experience exporting data and creating datasets for statistical analyses.
- Experience working with Head Start standards, data systems, and programs.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Working knowledge of external platforms such as IPEDS and Census data.
- Data management skills including experience with Microsoft Excel and Access. Demonstrated familiarity with query design, formula usage, pivot tables, and charting.
- Ability to work toward established deadlines, generate reports, and strong time management skills.
- Ability to collaborate and communicate with researchers, evaluators, and program personnel with varied technical backgrounds.
- Working knowledge of SharePoint and Qualtrics data management.
- Ability to analyze existing tools and databases and provide software solution recommendations.
- Knowledge of addressing and metadata standards.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Detail oriented for accuracy of data and information.
