JOB DESCRIPTION

The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences of McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston is seeking qualified candidates to join our excellent faculty team. This is a great opportunity to join a state-of-the-art Behavioral Sciences Campus with 2 psychiatric hospitals serving 500 beds total, and 29 clinics throughout the local Houston area.  Located in the heart of the largest medical center in the nation, we have a vigorous research enterprise and multiple educational programs including a large residency program, child and adolescent fellowship, psychology interns, and more.  Our robust collegial atmosphere fosters collaboration and teamwork! The position would assist in providing exceptional teaching and supervisory opportunities to residents and medical students as a key training site for the McGovern Medical School and soon to our NEW School of Behavioral Health Sciences, opening in the fall of 2025.

Childhood trauma can have profound and lasting effects on a child's emotional, psychological, and relational well-being. Trauma can stem from various adverse experiences such as abuse, neglect, domestic violence, or parental substance abuse.

Outpatient Psychiatry- Child and Adolescent

We seek to recruit a Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist for a full-time outpatient faculty position.

A Child & Adolescent Psychiatrist will provide outpatient support at the Children’s Assessment Center and Child Protective Services for medication management and therapy, including but not limited to; Play Therapy, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and Sensorimotor Psychotherapy. Candidate should be prepared to be onsite for services. 


Qualifications:

  • M.D. or equivalent degree.
  • Licensed or license-eligible in the State of Texas.
  • Board Certified or Board Eligible in General Psychiatry and Child & Adolescent Psychiatry.

Experience or interest in research and/or education is preferred.

Depending upon the applicant's qualifications and credentials, faculty appointment as the Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, and Professor rank will be offered.
