At a Glance

Legrand has an exciting opportunity for a Purchasing Supervisor to join the Middle Atlantic Products Team in Fairfield,NJ. The candidate will expand/develop Middle Atlantic's purchasing presence internally and externally to achieve long-term growth strategies. Install systems to ensure efficient and effective supply chain management for all aspects of material procurement.

What Will You Do?

MAIN JOB DUTIES:

  • Keeps abreast of market conditions and trends by attending continuing education seminars and reading industry-related publications. Identifies opportunities and recommends strategic action to senior level management. Supplies pricing forecasts to upper management for use in annual standard cost rolls of all inventory related purchased parts.
  • Oversees departmental activities, trains, councils and supports subordinates. Assigns tasks to department members and ensures prompt execution. Assists in performance evaluations, helps sets goals and objectives and monitors progress. Maintains a cross-training program and assists creating a strong succession plan to accommodate changes in business needs.
  • Develops strategies to meet raw material inventory goals initiating programs to improve turns without sacrificing internal and external customer fulfillment. Evaluates and publishes purchase price variances and raw material inventory by commodity valuation on a monthly and annual basis detailing trends to upper management.
  • Conducts and monitors vendor performance on a monthly and annual basis and communicates related issues to suppliers as well as to upper management. Investigates and resolves quality problems and disputes with suppliers and institutes corrective action requests as required. Works with respective buyers to establish corrective action plan for suppliers with unacceptable performance.
  • Maintains vendor contracts and agreements and terms and conditions. Evaluates and approves large volume purchase or contract agreements to minimize lead-time and inventory exposure or to secure special pricing.
  • Ensures secondary and tertiary sources are established and qualified for critical components.
  • Leads and assists in supplier qualifications/certifications for production materials evaluating facility capacity, capabilities and financial risk assessments.
  • Maintains integrity of vendor and product information within the ERP including Non-Inventory part numbering, lead-times, product descriptions, re-order points and quantities, safety stock and standard costs. Develops a process to ensure quarterly review.
  • Attends Production, Material Review Board and Engineering Change Request meetings taking action as required and communicating issues and developments to relevant personnel within the organization. Participates in the Make vs. Buy process and identify potential suppliers.
  • Works with Quality Assurance Department to create and document all supplier guidelines, departmental procedures and work instructions. Maintains responsibility for continual updating of procedures.
  • Reviews ECR's to establish feasibility and impact with regard to purchasing issues and approves or rejects as warranted.

Qualifications


Basic Qualifications

EDUCATION:
  • College Graduate or equivalent experience

EXPERIENCE:
  • 5 plus years purchasing leadership experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • SAP experience is preferred.
  • ASPICS Certification preferred.

Preferred Skills
  • Must be an excellent communicator capable of interfacing with all levels of management. Must possess high degree of detail orientation and excellent organizational skills. Position requires strong negotiating skills and the ability to successfully arbitrate and resolve disputes. Proficiency in computer based spreadsheet and word processing systems such as Excel, Word, and Access is required. Must be willing to adapt to changing responsibilities as required to achieve departmental and corporate goals.
